One year ago we walked into the liquor store and asked ourselves a very simple question “what’s the difference between top shelf and well-whiskey?”
The answer was simple, “TIME & OAK.” And that’s when it hit us – “if the goal is for the whiskey to filter in and out of the wood to remove toxins, get infused with flavor, and pull out those rich colors, what if the barrel isn't the best design to achieve this process?” Wood barrels are really only good at containing the whiskey, because the wood is cut vertically so that the capillaries aren’t exposed to the liquid; otherwise the whiskey would slowly seep out the sides of the wood like a wet paper bag.
Here’s a fun fact, if you have one bottle of clear whiskey that is 30 days old, and another bottle of the same clear whiskey that is 3 years old, they taste exactly the same. Unlike wine, alcohol doesn’t change in flavor once stored in a glass bottle.
We designed this product to take advantage of transpiration through capillary action that provided a shorter distance for whiskey to travel through its repetitive exposure to the capillaries by cutting it horizontally. We call this process “accelerated transpiration through capillary action,” and our product is called a Whiskey Element. In a way, we redesigned the whiskey barrel by removing the barrel and developing a propriatary curing method to replace its presence in the aging process.
We then met with numerous labs and chemists to have them test popular bottles of top shelf whiskey (all over 10yrs old and each over $100/bottle) for chemical contents. We then had them test popular bottles of well-whiskey for the same chemicals. The well-whiskeys contained high levels of Methoxy-phenyl-Oxime (commonly found in pig and mouse feces) and Acetaldehyde (responsible for hangovers), while the aged top-shelf whiskeys contained almost none of either. We then added a Whiskey Element to each of the well-whiskeys, waited 24hrs, and tested them again. The results were amazing. They showed characteristics found in top-shelf aged whiskeys with notably higher levels of the chemicals responsible for good flavors and smells, as well as a significant reduction in Methoxy-phenyl-Oxime and Acetaldehyde. Yay science!
So what does all of this mean?
It means drink your whiskey the way you want to drink it. This all-natural process works on any and all whiskeys. Just pick out the element you wish your favorite whiskey had – whether that be oaky, vanilla, maple, smokey, peaty, or whatever we come up with next – add that element to your whiskey, and enjoy your completely unique barrel-aged taste tomorrow.
Common question - "How are you achieving these unique flavors?" "Are you adding flavor additives?"
Answer - Nope. This is a 100% all natural process with no chemicals or additives. It's a proprietary curing process but basically the flavors come from temperature and time. A 20 degree change can alter the flavor from maple-oak to almond-coffee. It's pretty amazing to see the dramatic effects that small variations in our curing process will have on the flavors.
Common question - can Elements be used more than once?
Answer - Whiskey Elements are designed for single use, you 'could' re-use them but they will not be as effective as a new Element. If you are a big whiskey lover, I recommend you buy the Holiday Kit and stock up. Cheers.
