THE DILEMMA

Have you ever experienced the embarrassment of holding up the queue from keeping change?
Have you ever experienced the embarrassment of holding up the queue from keeping change?

Accepting change is easy, but keeping it has always been a struggle. It's the year 2016, but we haven't really put a lot of thought into how we keep our change. So we wanted to create a wallet that would not only be beautiful, but would put our change receiving woes to rest.

Do you fumble with a coin pouch in your bag just to keep your coins?

Hey so I just got my wallet so imma leave a quick review in case anyone is thinking of getting the wallet at first glance the wallet seems quite thin while in its packaging and tied up with a bow made of elastic. But when the elastic is removed the thickness of the wallet is rather glaring - the fault lying with the coin pouch flap. The flap is secured with a ridiculously large button clasp which appeared to double the wallet's size unless you squish it close When first opening the wallet it seems rather tight - prolly to be expected until we gradually break it in with use as we are warned by a card inserted in the wallet. Standard sized cards are a tad of a hassle to fit through the card slots the first time by afterwards became quite manageable. The wallet has 3 slots which can only handle a single credit card (I tried to fit more but obviously didnt work lol) or about 3 name cards along with an additional larger slot behind the coin flap which fits multiple cards - pretty functional design I reckon The notes section only comes with 1 section - pretty obvious why as the note section has to fit the coin-sorting mechanism So yeah speaking of which we come to the pièce de résistance - the coin sorting mechanism. I reckon this has been displayed on the kickstarter page multiple times but I finally got to take a closer look at how it works Basically the notes section has 2 flaps on either side of the wallet which flare up when the wallet is opened. The flaps are slanted in that they block coins inside the wallet from falling out but are easily opened but coins being inserted - thus allowing the notes section of the wallet to act as a coin pouch. Yes that's right, the coin pouch is actually the same compartment as the notes compartment i checked lol So basically it's like putting coins in the notes compartment of a regular wallet with the flared flaps blocking coins from falling out. Pretty interesting actually seeing it in action and much simpler than I thought it would be. Works well enough as long as the coins are not too small (5 cent coins fell out) or too numerous (Some coins fell out when I went against better judgement and chucked like 10-15 1 dollar coins in there (reminds me about when I tried to buy a 30 dollar book from kino with all coins but currency act makes this hardly a relevant issue) since the flap flares out the opening actually increases in width when you open it so looks a bit finicky, fragile even should the wallet be opened too wide - I definitely won't let many people touch the wallet in case they break it :P The overall build feels quite solid but I noticed some threading at the coin flap being loose - like loose thread on old clothing. A bit annoying but whether this will affect the wallet's integrity is to be seen Branding on the wallet is limited to just the K on the front so it doesnt look tacky at all. I like the design quite a bit altogether a pretty solid wallet for the price with a cool coin mechanism that is indeed convenient to use as long as you maintain a system of orienting your coins on one side and notes on the other to prevent coins from being trapped or lost. Biggest complaint still remains being the button clasp which will definitely turn some people off but otherwise quite nice. If anyone is making a kin mk2.0 though definitely change the flap - I reckon a zipper or belroy-esque mechanism would work much better without ruining the compactness of the wallet or just take out the flap altogether so we can just take out the coins from the notes compartment P.S. Dont bother trying to put a note clip on it. I tried and nearly damaged one of the flaps :O

Dang, wish that my line breaks were maintained in the comment but guess we're stuck with that garble. Side note: The button clasp looks to be different from the prototype shown. Much bulkier and silvery in colour instead of black so it actually sticks out like a sore thumb. Flap is also more rigid and smaller than shown in the prototype demonstration gif - refer to the schematics provided for more accurate scale
