HELIO is an ultra-efficient source of light and power. 100% Solar, 100% Heart. HELIO is great for camping, hiking, emergencies, gazebos, use as a night light, stargazing... or wherever your adventures may take you.
HELIO is based on a simple idea: to design a solar light and power source we could use for adventures and emergencies, and that others in need would use daily.
Makers4Good believes that everyone should have access to safe light and power, so 100% of profits from HELIO will be used to provide light and power to those with limited access to electricity.
Let your adventures help others.
Exact details may change as development of HELIO continues. The specifications below reflect current plans.
We plan to unlock the following product enhancements and additional nonprofit support as we reach key campaign targets. Help us spread the word and keep the goodness coming! If you have ideas for other stretch goals, please let us know in the comments.
- UNLOCKED AT $80k: wall-mounting hardware and wrist strap. We reached this goal! We will add hardware for mounting your HELIO to any surface, and a handy carrying strap.
- $100,000: cloth carrying pouch. At this level of support, we will add a cloth carrying pouch to each shipment!
All profits from each purchase of HELIO will support nonprofit organizations through our Share Light program. These nonprofit partner organizations have provided solar light and energy through a variety of solutions to those in need for the last 6 years. We have worked with each of them over the last year to learn from their deep in-the-field experience about the needs of those living in regions without reliable energy access.
These nonprofit partners, together with you and HELIO, will bring solar light and energy right where it is needed most.
There are over a billion people worldwide who use candles, kerosene, or wood to light up their lives. These fuels are expensive, dangerous, and make it almost impossible for children to study and to achieve their full potential.
Our three Share Light partners each focus on helping different regions, and our backers can choose which nonprofit will receive their support.
The Global BrightLight Foundation (GBL) provides practical, affordable solar energy solutions to rural communities in Peru and Guatamala that currently lack access to electricity. Makers4Good support will fund and expand their Light a Village program for families in Guatemala. Details on this program are available on GBL's site.
Lalafofofo is a community-based organization raising youth in rural Kilimanjaro out of poverty; and inspiring & challanging American youth to contribute to innovative, real-world, cross-national solutions.
"Light up Tanzania” a Lalafofofo program, in collaboration with Last Mile and Makers4Good, provides solar-powered LED lights to Tanzanian communities living in extreme poverty and 12-hour stretches of darkness.
One Million Lights (OML) distributes thousands of solar lights yearly to people in rural communities with no access to electricity as a safe, clean, affordable alternative to kerosene lamps.
Makers4Good’s and HELIO’s support for OML will provide solar lights to students in the Bopolu Distict, Gbarpolu County in Liberia. We have worked together before on this buy-one-give-one program.
The following nonprofits are also helping to support our mission of bringing safe energy to the world.
